Robert Plant Still Screams!
Robert Plant sounds as good as ever. The Zeppelin songs brought back my teenage years along with some tears. The hits from the early '80s (like I'm in the mood for a melody) took my wife and I to our beautiful early dating days. His new material is eclectic, soothing, interesting and genius. The band members are all great talents deserving of their own bands. The co-singer, Patty Griffin is great with an awesome voice. The musicians Buddy Miller and Darrell Scott are amazingly talented and we could not get enough of them playing the various types of string instruments. We had great seats, only 8 rows from the stage. So we were up pretty close to be able to see Mr Plant's facial expressions very clearly!
We drove from Glendale to Highland (63 miles one way) to see Robert Plant and he was well worth it and we would not hesitate to do it again!
Night of Joy
Being a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, as well as a fan of Plant's solo work, seeing Percy in concert has been a goal for some time. Robert and his Band of Joy didn't disappoint. I was grinning ear-to-ear all night. They played a good mix songs from their recent album, Robert's solo work, and some re-worked Zeppelin songs. Zeppelin classics like Black Dog and Ramble On were slowed down and given a little different flavor. It wasn't Led Zeppelin, but it was close enough. The highlights for me were "Black Country Woman" and Robert's solo hit "In The Mood". I highly recommend seeing them.
If you go, make sure to get there in time to see the North Mississippi All-stars. They were fantastic. The band consists of two brothers, Luther and Cody Dickinson. I had seen Luther Dickinson in concert before, as he was the lead guitarist on The Black Crowes last two albums and tours.
Robert has Plant(ed) some groovy tunes in my head
So I was in a pissy mood because I had just gotten a boxers fracture in my 4th & 5th metacarpals earlier that day but didn't have time to go to the doctor because we had to eat dinner & go to the show. Once there, I got a few whiskey drinks in me & all was well for the night. They opened with 'Fixin to Die', a great tune by old Miss. blues guitarist, Booker "Bukka" White. not sure of the order of the songs but bron-y-aur stomp & i believe four sticks, both zeppelin tunes, were played. Spoonful, a Charley Patton song was FANTASTIC!!!! Of course some Sensational Space Shifters songs were played & Gallows Pole was the last song of the night. All in all, the show was incredible!!!! Forgot all about my hand until someone bumped into it on the way out.
